One year is 365 days on Earth. However, there's an island where one year is 364 days. A day less than the others. It is the island of Bali, which has a population of 4 million. On one specific day, this island, often called the world's best resort, becomes disconnected from the rest of the Earth. The first day of the year is called "Nyepi" on the Balinese Saka calendar, and on this day, all modes of transporta-tion, such as planes and ships, come to a complete stop. The Internet is cut off, and 4 million Balinese people spend the day at home, fasting, meditating, and praying. Nyepi, The Silences Day. Their last prayer is for the well-being of Mother Earth. It's a day of rest for the Earth that comes around once a year, after which the Earth gets ready to work again. The documentary <Bali, The Great Soul> shows the dramatic moments of change when the whole island became a theater state centering around the Nyepi as well as the important values of the Bali community that haven't changed even in the 21st century through the group of small communities, Banjar, that Charlie Chaplin praised so much in the 1930s. These are stories that have never been heard before from the times we can't go back to. Through the records made by the filming crew and their 7-year-long stay in Bali, let's explore the great soul of Bali in its essence.
