Most people would rather squash a cockroach than study it, but these much-maligned insects are fascinating creatures that warrant our attention, especially because they live so close to us — often right inside our own homes. Even though we humans generally associate cockroaches with filth and disease, the reputation may be worse than the reality. With a clever story line combining useful scientific information and amazing upclose footage of roaches in their element, “Cockroach” may not be a documentary series for the squeamish, but it is for the curious.
